The course History of English will provide students with an in-depth understanding of how English has developed over time, its role in culture and society, and its global importance as a language. Students will become familiar with the conventional division of the English language into Old English, Middle English and Modern English and with the main linguistic features of each period. These features will include aspects of spelling, pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary. Students will also get familiar with the history and development of Standard English, as well as of different variants of English.
